Move

The highest form of movement practice is improvisation.
Ido Portal

Ido Portal says, “The body will become better at whatever you do — or don’t do. You don’t move? The body will make you better at NOT moving, by locking the tissues together. If you move, the body will allow you more movement. You better start to move your spine if you don’t wanna walk like this guy.”

Let’s face it, for the most part, we are a sedentary society. Much of what we do from day to day involves sitting, laying down, or at the very least, moving through shortened, repetitive motions.

Think about your day. How often do you practice basic movements such as brushing teeth or vacuuming using both sides of the body? Which is the first leg to lead you up the stairs? How well do you go from laying on your back to standing and can you squat without rounding your back or lifting your ankles off the floor?

Unless you are in the minority, you most likely live with some level of pain, discomfort, postural or mobility restrictions that can eventually lead to injuries or illness. The good news is that it’s never too late to get started and improvement can only happen when we invest the time and energy into our health & wellness.

I believe that movement is medicine. There’s many benefits that show up when we move through the patterns that we are designed to move through:

  • the body gets stronger
  • our coordination improves
  • we eliminate pain
  • circulation improves
  • energy flows more efficiently through the body… and …
  • we gain more confidence.

Have you ever said something like this:

“Oh no, I can’t do that”.

“Thanks but I think I’d hurt myself if I tried that”.

“Wow! I wish I could move like that”.

“Can you teach me how to stretch so I don’t have this pain”.

“You’re so amazing, I don’t know how you do that!”.

“Exercise is boring”.

“I hate going to the gym”.

If you can relate to any of the statements above, MOVE classes may be just what your body is looking for. During these 1 hour classes we use only the body, creativity and open space to move, sweat, learn and have a great time.

One of the things that people tell me they enjoy most about these sessions is how much they love the freedom they feel because of the workouts.

You may be wondering what we can do in an open space with no equipment. Check out the following outline of how the training session flows and then watch the video for a few examples of  flowing movement sequences you can build up to as you continue to work through the progressions.
